All About Soundtracks Review: Another Remote Control Productions score, this time for the new adventure movie from Disney, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. Don't worry - not as bad as Clash of the Titans.

Composer Harry Gregson Williams delivers a score that, most of the time, feels like it actually belongs to Persia, with the predictable incorporation of ethnic instruments.
Also unsurprising are other two facts. Fact one, the first cue promisses to much when compared to what the score as a whole delivers. Fact two, the second half of the score frequently falls into Zimmerish action music.
The biggest surprise in this score is not a good one. The thematic exploration of the music is almost absent. Actually, only one theme is recognizable (heard in Prince of Persia, Sands of Time, Destiny) and it is nothing of memorable.
The song I Remain, performed by Alanis Morissette, is totally unnecessary, terribly bad and happilly placed after the score.
Despite all its flaws, this score is more entertaining than other Remote Control scores, with a few interesting moments (e.g., Ostrich Race). However, Harry Gregson-Williams seems to be having some kind of writing block, as we all know he can do much much better.
Ups: good score for die-hard fans of Remote Control action music, in this case with some flavours of Persia.
Downs: an underachievement for Gregson-Williams, in terms of thematic development, construction and style.
Noteworthy tracks: Prince of Persia, Ostrich Race, Destiny.
Score note: 5/10
