All About Soundtracks Review:
The score from Hans Zimmer to the second Mission: Impossible movie is a two-face one.
On the one hand, Zimmer's use of electronics goes here to levels of mere, irritating noise.

These portion is the most large on the score, and it's tremendously unenjoying, unless you love the loud sound of confusing electric guitars and synthetic samples. Track 4, Theme From Mission: Impossible is the best example of this exagerate use. Others, like the first track, Hijack, are simply plain and boring.
This part of the score where there's no deepness to explore also features Zimmer's trademark bass male choral chants, as in Ambrose or the barely exciting Bare Island (which features an unlistenable transition between the choral section and the reprise of the main theme in electric guitar).
On the other hand, there's light somewhere in this score. Somehow, this score is worth a listen, just for the moments where Zimmer was apparently inspired by the Spanish setting of the movie and the love story that the main character goes through.
These moments have the presence of Zimmer's usual contributors: guitarist Heitor Pereira and vocalist Lisa Gerrard (yeah, the lady from Gladiator). They become not only the highlight of a rather plain score, but somehow obligatory in any film music collection.
Injection blends vocals, acoustic guitar and electronics in such a fashion that becomes soothingly beautiful. It's the album's definite highlight.
Mano a Mano features a synthesized reprise of the Injection melody, but ends with a solo mourning vocal by Lisa Gerrard reprisinf that melody that makes this cue noteworthy.
Mission: Accomplished features a more hopeful acoustic guitar tune that just makes you want more. And it comes...
Nyah and Ethan puts Heitor Pereira guitar ability's as the main attraction, in a toneful Tango-oriented theme. It's just lovely and, in the same level of Injection, an obligatory cue for every film music admirer.

Ups: some wonderful, beautiful tracks that are worth repeat listenings, featuring Lisa Gerrard's vocals and Heitor Pereira's acoustic guitar.

Downs: mainly an electronic, sample-based, electric-guitar-centered plain score. Track 2 is a completely unnecessary song.

Noteworthy tracks: Nyah, Injection, Mano a Mano, Mission: Accomplished, Nyah and Ethan.

Score note: 5/10
