All About Soundtracks Review:
John Powell was the one who got the unique chance to score this amazing 3D movie.
The album opens with a track (This is Berk) that pretty much defines what is coming: Irish tones, joyful melodies, bits of action/adventure and a very sentimental touch.

Powell brings thematic development to this score, and a lot of energy and power too. There are great adventure cues, like track 11, Test Drive, which is one of the strongest tracks.
But the skeleton of the score is Hiccup, the protagonist of the film, and his emotions and relationships. Forbidden Friendship (track 8) presents the theme to the relationship between Hiccup and the dragon Night Fury.
After the musical development of their relationship, comes the climax of this joyful emotional ride, in track 15, Romantic Flight, that can literally make you fly. Powell conveys here all the power and beauty of the score, adding some teenage romance.
Then, comes the darker part of the score, with some heavier action cues (Battling The Green Death). In the end, it's all joy and happiness and beauty again (Coming Back Around)
Overall, this is an excelent score, that perfectly fits the movie, with John Powell presenting romance, friendship and teenage troubles in a beautiful yet simple way. Adding the energetic adventure, this is probably already one of the best scores of this year.

Noteworthy tracks: This is Berk, Forbidden Friendship, Test Drive, Romantic Flight.

Score note: 9/10
