Review:

Well-known for his work on fantasy movies and dark movies, Danny Elfman was as obivous choice to score The Wolfman, which has both fantasy and darkness.

But the troubled production resulted on the rejection of the score composed by Elfman, which, however, ended up to be the final choice of the producers. It was reported that the score was adapted to the final cut of the movie for some anonymous composers (as Elfman was busy with Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland).
So, we don't know exactly how much of this is really Danny Elfman.
Anyway, the score is not bad (the same can't be said about the movie).
The influence from Wojciech Kilar's score to Bram Stoker's Dracula is evident in the main theme, which in first cues is powerful, but then is too repeated and gets a little tiring. But there is (besides Wolf Suite Part 1), a strong rendition of this theme, in the sad and dark cue The Funeral.
This is a very dark orchestral score, that has obvious Elfman's trademarks. It has some powerful moments: some strong action cues and others with a creepy dark beauty.
However, there also very boring moments, filled with ambient music.
In the end of the day, a quite good score, but Elfman can do (and has done) much better.

Noteworthy tracks are: Wolf Suit Part 1, Gypsy Massacre, Country Carnage, The Traveling Montage.

Score note: 7/10
