All About Soundtracks Review: In the fashion of rebooting classic franchises, Nightmare on Elm Street is another failure. One of those movies that are a shame to Hollywood, it deserved precisly a score that would be a shame to film music. Being the movie produced by Micheal Bay, it was expected that Steve Jablonsky would be hired to score it. And so he was.

It's sure that the film doesn't deserve much, but still this is a really underachieving score. Two thirds of the score are filled with slow-paced, almost unmelodic blend of electronic noise and little string orchestra. The theme for the main villain, Freddy, it's nothing special. It sometimes sounds hypnothic in orchestration, that's actually a relief from the rest of the noise.
But the greatest relief from this unscary bore is the third part of the album. The strings orchestra has a greater role that makes for the least unpleasant tracks (Where the Monster Lives, Wake Me Up), and there are some tracks with action that break a bit with the slow-pace (It's Not In Here).
The last two tracks are the most curious stuff on this score. One More Nap features electric guitar and drums, for what plays like a rock version of the main title, that doesn't feel too much unrelated to the rest of the music, despite being unnecessary.
The album ends with Jump Rope, a 20-second recording of Freddy's song from the movie.
Let's try to forgive another Jablonsky underachievement, because, once again, the music is as good as the movie: not good at all.
Everything here feels tired, over-used, unfresh. Everything sounds familar. Actually, familiarly bad.
This is a 50-minute long nightmare.

Ups: perfect for fans of the movie and/or athmospheric horror music.

Downs: mostly slow-paced, almost absent of melody, with nothing new, memorable or remarkable to the business of horror scores.

Noteworthy tracks: none.

Score note: 1/10
