All About Soundtracks Review: The score for Tom Ford's directorial debut has two composers, though Abel Korzeniowski is responsible for the majority of the tracks.
This score was reportedly recorded without click track and with solo violinist standing up while playing. This all made the music sound more natural, which just highlights its emotional depth.

A Single Man is scored with great simplicity, it's almost minimalistic. However, the music is so artistic, emotional and full of texture that it all works really well.
Sometimes the listener can feel like the music will absorb him.
Korzeniowski fills the first half of the score with a sense of loss, sadness, despair and no hope for hapiness (Stillness of the Mind). However, the music is not over-dramatic. It hits the right spot. Then, in the second half of the album there amazing tracks that resound a newly found hope and happiness (Swimming, Sunset).
Every cue is great in the score, but reference must be made to two cues in special. Drowning has such an incredible orquestration and dream-like melody that is feels irrealistic, like in the negation phase after a tragic event. Then, the final cue, Clock Tick, is a strong presence, great string work and really works like a clock, with a repetitive and somehow additctive rythm.
From Shigeru Umebayashi contributions, the most noteworthy is the two-parted George's Waltz. It's really beautiful, yet has a sad essence. Just like the score as a whole.
This score is excellent, deeply emotional, beautifully sad and intenselly addictive. However, it suffers from four songs placed right in the middle of this unique score.
Noteworthy tracks: all of them, except the songs (tracks 11, 12, 13 and 14)
Score note: 9.5/10
